5th Grade Buddies

Together with our fifth grade buddies, we made posters for "I Love to Read" month. We love to read and have fun with our buddies.

LIMO LUNCH

Here are some cute pictures of Riley and Kylie on their "Limo Lunch" ride around Albert Lea. Riley won the prize for meeting the goal during our fall fundraiser, and she got to invite a friend. Riley was also the top sales person at Hawthorne School. She sold about $925. WOW!

Observation

In 2nd grade, we talk about using observation in science. Here is a goofy picture of our friends doing an activity that used the skill of observation.

Miss Miller

Yes, she is related to our student teacher. They are sisters. This Miss (Jenna) Miller comes into our room each afternoon and helps teach math groups. We love her friendly personality and positive attitude.

Mrs. Worman

Everyday, you can find Mrs. Worman's friendly face helping kids in the Media Center. We are so thankful for her caring heart and positive attitude. She helps us find and check-out books. Mrs. Worman is enthusiatic about reading and her excitement is very CONTAGIOUS! Organizing the Scholastic Book Fair is another thing that she does to help Hawthorne kids and teachers. What would we do without her!

Emma the Dog

Emma is a 6 year old border collie. She comes into our classroom once a week to read with children. Each child will get a chance to read with Emma at least once before the end of the year.

Her owner, Jeanne, loves having a therapy dog. Studies have shown that therapy dogs lower blood pressure, and help people feel calm and loved. Thanks to Jeanne, we get to experience the joy of reading with Emma this year.

Emma had our total attention while Jeanne explained about Emma's special patches. Emma earned them by going through special training courses.

When children read with Emma, they can pet her, show her the pictures, and have the undivided attention of a special animal. Emma would be lost without her special family in Mrs. Carlson's class.
